Scentsy entices everyone to join their company and start their own business for $99. Then they start treating contractors/distributors as employees and the latest in that trend is to tell their directors they cannot sell for any other company, EVEN IF THAT COMPANY DOESN'T SELL HOME FRAGRANCE. And they are also saying that your SPOUSE/PARTNER cannot represent another company, either.

Here's the scenario...".suppose you have sold for Scentsy for years, and have built a downline sales force of 100 people/. Suppose you draw a $2,000 commission check from them per month!.

Also, suppose that you started a business at a company that doesn't sell a competing home fragrance line, which was perfectly legal according to your initial contract and its noncompete clause!. For example, you joined Thirty One, or Avon, or Tupperware;. Maybe you have spent a year or more building a downline at that company, and also developed a business that gives you a $2,000 income stream per month'.

Scentsy now says you must GIVE UP YOUR OTHER DOWNLINE AND NOT SELL FOR THE OTHER COMPANY;.

Most people would just say "I'll transfer that business to my spouse/partner," but Orville "I Rule the Damned World" Thompson, the owner of Scentsy, says no, your spouse cannot represent another direct sales company either:.

So, let's suppose your spouse was an Amway or Avon representive when you met them, and, you were a Scentsy representative.... now one of you has to give up your sales downline?????

This cannot be legal. Please tell me that is isn't! 12a6ad4

I have not ever been and am not a SCENTSY representative. Since I have survived the S&L crisis and weathered through 3 business closures (one a retail/wholesale company and the other 2 mortgage and real estate companies with over 10 years in existence the odd decision making of company owners in all three always filled me with the instinctive notion that the business was about to crash or completely close for good.

Any SCENTSY reps reading this who are running their business through every marketing channel within their economic capacity to generate 20 or more 'fresh' customer and recruiting leads upon being compelled to 'sign' on for a new distributorship through SCENTSY corporate needs to look at such an odd offering as a 'red flag' because:

*The main SCENTSY business profitability margins may be showing erosion indicators based on product and manufacturing costs, availability of product or even the realization of competition from US or other global companies:to be sure a number of flameless candles, remote control flameless candles and 'candles burner' /s are made and exported with UL certification by Chinese companies on a global basis, do a search engine search if you don't believe me.

*Off the wall decisions by management to pursue odd products or services during a time demonstrative of incipient low to no profits behind the scenes in my experience shows the beginning of 'The End' because first there are more firings/layoffs in my case, as a top producing loan officer and trainer management held on to us as long as we held on to the end(in 2008 I as well as others held on while trying vainly in the extreme of this recession/depression to collateralize our backgrounds - yes, I am a 'real' '99er'-my husband is the only reason I am not among the homeless and we have options that others do not.)

*What to do? If I were a SCENTSY rep earning $80K to Six figures I would also be speaking with a number of attorneys about setting a precedent case for distributors of MLM products/services addressing some means of preservation of residual income and the right to market other brands whether or not those distributorships are run through your personal ID or through your own separate corporation/s under separate EIN numbers.

My wife was very happy @ Scentsy untill they started the Veleta products--- You had to have separate website for the brand? The Scentsy Success products were quite costly. The Support system from your upline was lacking. The object in Scentsy was build the downline. If you didn't have lots of consultants under you your commission was 25%. You had to recruit to make a good parttime paycheck. With my wife it was more work, time & effort for too little based on time spent. If they hadn't changed the program too a worse & costlier system she would still be there

Scentsy Consultant, that is where you are wrong.

Now, the new P&P says if I:

1. Transfer my Scentsy business to another consultant.

2. Leave the company.

3. Join any other party plan company in the next 12 months.

4. They will terminate HER contract.

People I know who are wanting to transfer their businesses and leave are now being told that it will depend on which party plan companies they are considering joining or have already joined whether or not they will be allowed to transfer their business.

This is all about Perfectly Posh. Orville Thompson is mad because his nephew and some other former team members at Scentsy started a great new company. Ever since Posh launched Scentsy's rules have been changing wildly and constantly seem to be aimed at hurting anyone who has joined another d.s. company, but especially Posh.

Scentsy is disgusting.

This is not just a Scentsy rule. It's part of most DSA affiliated companies. It's sensible and ethical. And it was already part of the policies & procedures you signed when you first joined. It all comes down to choice. I see lots of good suggestions there for you to check out another company. Scentsy has 100% support from the rest of us. good luck.

Try www.DavidOreckCandle.com they have meltables better than Scentsy and their meltables include vegetable wax. Good lucrative commissions and yes it is own by the famous David Oreck. So their name is synonymous with quality.

On Tuesday of this week they revised the policy about selling for other direct sales companies. However, the no other downlines rule still stands as is.

I don't even represent the company anymore and I have seen the e-mails form Scentsy stating very directly that if/when they launch other products lines, you will have to give up any business you already have that competes. I have also seen the e-mails and comments from Chuck Thompson himself noting that anyone who is a director or above will have to give up their downlines at other companies OR forfeit their commission checks from Scentsy.

Before you start "Sheeshing" everyone, you should probably find out what the company you are so proud of ***really*** does and stands for.

To chemist,it's food grade petroleum wax, not traditional paraffin. How is it that the burned candles put carbon and soot plus wax vapors in the air and Scentsy does NOT do that, the wax doesn't "burn"?? I services HVAC systems damaged by candle wax accumulated in systems, PLUS no flame fire hazard.

They offer a LIFETIME warranty on defective warmers, no questions asked, just contact Customer Support or another Consultant. I don't get all the "haters". There's always more to negative stories that are omitted.

Scentsy is going to thrive, I guarantee. I know too many successful Consultants in my 2 years with Scentsy. Oh, you CAN be Co-Consultants, husband/Wife, Partners, etc. Don't know where you got that idea in earlire post. People need to get their facts straight.

Nikki, company is NOT going belly up. They're launching a new company with a second nnon-related line. How could that even be possible if profits, sales and capital weren't there to finance the startup?

SoConfused....your downline must have advanced beyond you in team numbers and sales. That's the only way you can lose your downline. You need to read the agreement or not whie.

Sheesh, such a lot of babies and whiners.....

Dear Do Your Research,

Yes, I read the paperwork. When I joined. The paperwork has officially changed. Did YOU know that?

You are missing my point. IF the rules are going to change, that's fine. But to penalize those who are already heavily invested in the company doesn't seem fair, and it doesn't seem to be consistent with the spirit of Scentsy's so-called family-friendly-adding-value-to-the-world facade.

Yes, I heard Chuck. I don't have to agree with him, or, what the company has done.

have you all bothered to check if other companies allow you to have another business? The policy is that you want' get paid on your group numbers, you still get paid on your team hough. I know people that were HUGE on Arbonne and made a ton of monthly income with them. They signed up to buy just certain products with another company not even to really sell it. Their Arbonne account was immediately cancelled. No chances to fix it or anything, she had been with them for YEARS!!!! Scentsy is not the only one with policies as such. If you can't be responsible enough when you start a business to read through all the paper work and be knowledgable about it then don't be surprised when something happens. If this were a crazy MLM then they wouldn't even let someone under you pass you up. If someone is working harder than you then hey deserve the pay. There is no reason to cal a lawyer as the aren't doing anything wrong. Most of the policies aren't even informed and they are just getting too many consultants now that they need to. Why is a Director posting negative on here? Seriously? What Chuck said on Directors call? Did you listen to it? GEEZ!
